Smart travel, also known as intelligent transportation, refers to the effective penetration and integration of the traditional transportation industry and the Internet with the help of advanced technologies and concepts such as mobile Internet, cloud computing, big data, and the Internet of Things, forming a new business type and new mode with "rational allocation of online resources, efficient and high-quality offline operation", and using satellite positioning, mobile communications, high-performance computing, geographic information systems and other technologies to achieve real-time perception of the status of urban and intercity road traffic systems, and accurately and comprehensively provide traffic conditions to the people through mobile navigation, roadside bulletin boards, traffic radio and other ways.

Through the integration of digital transformation technology in transportation infrastructure, smart travel provides real-time traffic information covering major highways, national and provincial roads (with a mileage of over 85000 kilometers) and 47 large and medium-sized cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, with an accuracy rate of over 90%. The research results have cooperated with Internet manufacturers, automobile manufacturers, navigation map manufacturers and mobile communication operators by means of transportation information services and transportation information technology services to form a transportation information service system with more than 200 million users and 10 million daily visits.
